On June 16, the Walnut Creek Police Department (WCPD) held its popular Coffee With a Cop event, this time in partnership with Koin Coffee, 325 N. Wiget Lane in Shadelands. On hand were law enforcement and professional staff to meet community members, answer questions, and engage in casual conversation over cups of hot coffee and tea.

Construction on the new, purpose-built SecureSpace Self Storage facility at 2700 Mitchell Drive in Shadelands is near completion, and that means that people with extra stuff will soon have plenty of spaces to choose from to store that stuff. Founded in 2018, SecureSpace Self Storage is a national storage company known for its modern, clean, and highly secure facilities, featuring 24/7 video surveillance, climate-control, and personalized keypad entry to exterior doors, elevators, and storage units.

Joybound People & Pets Hosts West Coast Animal Disaster Preparedness Workshop
|
On June 3 and 4, Joybound People & Pets teamed up with Animal Search and Rescue Training & Response, a national animal rescue organization, to host an immersive, two-day, hands-on Animal Disaster Preparedness Workshop focused on real-world training, peer collaboration, and strategic planning for animal rescues during emergency situations. With more than 80 attendees representing 30 different animal organizations, the workshop was part of Joybound’s collaborative efforts to help ensure response teams across the West Coast are trained, coordinated, and ready when disaster strikes.

Shadelands Bio-retention Basin and Landscaping Completed
|
The Walnut Creek Public Works Department completed construction on the Shadelands Drive and N. Wiget Lane Green Infrastructure Improvement Project in May 2026, installing a new, aesthetically pleasing bio-retention basin, drought-resistant plants, and an irrigation system at the corner of Shadelands Drive and N. Wiget Lane. The bio-retention basin has been engineered to slow, filter, and treat storm water and polluted roadway runoff before the water enters storm drain systems and waterways.
