SYNOPSIS:
Mountain Shadow brings the story of Hilma af Klint, a Swedish woman who revolutionized the art world when her work was exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in 2019. Unknown and unrecognized as the woman who invented abstract painting, filmmaker Lasse Hallström brings to the big screen the life story of a woman who defied late nineteenth century conventions, when women were not allowed to attend art school with their male peers. The film reveals the impetus behind her work; from the sudden death of her younger sister, to the writings of Rudolph Steiner, and the strong influence of the Theosophic Movement and her belief in mystical philosophy. From Sweden / Bio-Pic – in English, with CC – 120 min.
