Live! from the Library: The Climate Crisis and Our Parks and Open Spaces

Earth Day 2022 is Friday, April 22. In recognition, we invite you to join The Walnut Creek Library Foundation’s Live! From the Library series as we host a panel discussion examining the climate crisis, its impacts on our open spaces, and how our local parks and land conservation efforts offer important tools in addressing the crisis. Joining the discussion will be experts from Save Mount Diablo, California State Parks, and East Bay Regional Park District.
Moderated by Ted Clement, Executive Director of Save Mount Diablo, the panel will include Sean Burke, Save Mount Diablo Land Programs Director, Ashley Grenier, a Supervising Naturalist for East Bay Regional Park District, Cameron Morrison, Mount Diablo State Park Supervising Ranger and Aileen Theile, East Bay Regional Park District Fire Chief. While our open spaces have been experiencing more fires and drought in the last several years, land conservation offers multiple benefits for the climate and solutions to the crisis. For example, conserved land not only helps absorb greenhouse gases, it also prevents significant greenhouse gas emissions that would result from wide-spread development—including deforestation, construction, and additional vehicular traffic required by poorly planned growth.
The Walnut Creek Library Foundation (WCLF) raises funds to support Walnut Creek libraries and enrich the community via free public lectures, literary events, and cultural programs. Previous Live! From the Library programs are available for viewing online. Program sponsors are East Bay Times, Friends of the Walnut Creek Library, and Minuteman Press Lafayette.
