Yoga of 12 Step Recovery

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 (4:30 PM - 6:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

**This class is donation based**

Recovery is more than something we think and talk about. It is something we practice in our bodies, our relationships and our daily lives.

Yoga of 12-Step Recovery (Y12SR) is a unique weekly experience that brings together the wisdom and embodied practices of yoga with the practical tools and principles of 12-step recovery.

Each gathering includes community and discussion, gentle yoga movement (asana), breathwork (pranayama), meditation and reflection to explore addiction, recovery and healing through the body-mind connection.

Based in part on the idea that “the issues live in our tissues,” Y12SR recognizes that our experiences can show up not only in our thoughts, but also in our bodies. Through movement, breath and compassionate awareness, participants are invited to reconnect with themselves, quiet the noise, and practice new ways of responding to difficult emotions, urges and patterns.

You do not need to be “good at yoga” to participate. You don’t need flexibility, special clothing or previous yoga experience. Come exactly as you are.

Y12SR can support people navigating alcohol or substance use as well as other addictive or compulsive behaviors—the many “A’s” that can affect our lives and relationships. It is also a space for people seeking deeper connection, self-awareness and recovery community.

Y12SR is designed to complement, not replace, 12-step meetings, professional treatment, therapy or other recovery supports.

This is a place to move.

A place to breathe.

A place to be honest.

A place to find community.

And a place to practice recovery-one breath at a time.

Meet Kelly

Kelly is a yoga teacher, mother, full-time caregiver, woman in recovery, and someone who believes deeply that healing happens when we are willing to show up honestly-for ourselves and for one another.

Yoga first entered Kelly’s life as a way to reconnect with herself. Over time, the mat became a place where she could quiet some of the noise of the outside world, soften judgment, reconnect with her body and breath, and practice being kinder to herself. Sometimes that has meant an entire yoga practice. Other times, it has simply meant finding one minute, one movement, or one breath.

Kelly’s understanding of healing has also been profoundly shaped by being a mother.

When her daughter Jane was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease at just 10 months old, Kelly’s life changed. For the past 23 years, much of her life has been devoted to caring for Jane and helping her live as comfortably, healthfully and fully as possible. That journey led Kelly to seek out many different practitioners, healing modalities and approaches to supporting the body, mind and spirit.

Again and again, she found herself coming back to yoga.

Kelly completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training through YogaWorks in 2011 and has continued exploring complementary approaches to wellness, including completing Reiki II training and studying the use of essential oils for healing.

More recently, Kelly’s own recovery journey brought an even deeper meaning to her yoga practice.

Recovery has asked her to look honestly at the ways she had sometimes tried to avoid difficult feelings, situations, behaviors and relationships. It has also taught her something she now hopes to share with others: we are not meant to do this alone.

Kelly found support through the recovery community, and service became a natural extension of her own healing. In 2026, she completed her Y12SR - Yoga of 12-Step Recovery - training, bringing together two communities and practices that have become deeply meaningful in her life.

Y12SR is based in part on the idea that “the issues live in our tissues.” Kelly believes recovery can involve more than talking about what has happened to us. Sometimes we also need opportunities to move, breathe, reconnect with our bodies, experience stillness, and discover new ways of caring for ourselves.

Her classes are intended to complement-not replace-traditional 12-step meetings and other recovery supports. Kelly hopes to create a welcoming space where people affected by addiction, trauma, compulsive behaviors and other “A’s” can experience recovery in another way.

Kelly isn’t coming to this work from a place of having everything figured out. She comes as someone who is living it herself- as a mother, caregiver, woman in recovery, yoga teacher and fellow human being learning to listen to herself more honestly.

For Kelly, getting on the mat is an act of self-care and self-love.

And sometimes healing really does begin that simply:

One body. One community. One breath at a time.
