Program Description:
The Department of Development and Community Relations at Meals on Wheels Diablo Region (MOWDR) plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s mission to support vulnerable seniors. By strategically utilizing MOWDR’s strong brand and community presence, the department helps generate financial support, increase public awareness, and build a reliable network of volunteers.
This department integrates development, marketing, and stakeholder engagement into a cohesive team that works collaboratively to strengthen community partnerships. Through these efforts, MOWDR ensures it has the visibility, resources, and support needed to deliver impactful services to seniors throughout the region.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Development Manager supports a strategic and organized approach to individual fundraising increasing community awareness and building relationships with local organizations and interest groups.
Reporting to the Director of Development and Community Relations and with one direct report, this role is responsible for implementing and managing donor engagement, cultivation, and stewardship programs, including annual and planned giving, peer-to-peer fundraising, corporate partnerships, and signature events such as the annual Gala.
This full-time position is based in Walnut Creek, CA, with standard hours Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required for events and donor meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise one part-time support staff
- Lead strategy and execution for Annual and Planned Giving campaigns.
- Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement the annual Development Plan.
- Use fundraising platforms and donor databases to ensure data integrity, analyze campaign performance, and support donor engagement.
- Manage direct mail campaigns, including list creation, vendor coordination, and content review.
- Maintain and optimize donor database & systems.
- Set and track fundraising goals and donor engagement metrics.
- Serve as the primary contact for donors contributing under $1,000, support board and executive director engagement for major donors.
- Conduct donor research and develop strategies for acquisition and gift growth.
- Create and manage cultivation plans for major donors and prospects.
- Support planning and execution of the annual Gala, focusing on logistics, vendor coordination, software management, and volunteer engagement.
- Assist with grant writing, tracking, and strategy.
- Develop and manage Planned Giving initiatives.
- Implement a timely and personalized gift acknowledgment process.
- Foster clear communication across staff and volunteers.
- Design and execute donor appreciation and cultivation events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and event planning.
- Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with donor databases and CRM systems.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
